PABLO PICASSO @ BNG

by Jim Ramsay 1st, October 2017

Open @ Bermuda National Gallery, City Hall, Hamilton.

EXTENDED FOR A LIMITED TIME

Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973), Colombe au soleil (Dove with Sun), lithograph,1962. Collection of The Green Family.

The dove is an icon of peace, a symbol of resilience and triumph over violence, especially in times of war and conflict. This artwork presents the grace of the dove hovering toward the sun above a jumble of broken weapons.

Picasso created the artwork to serve as the image to advertise the World Congress for General Disarmament and Peace held in Moscow, July 1962.

Picasso was an artistic genius. His contribution to the modern art movement and his inspiration for artists and art-enthusiasts the world over is, perhaps, impossible to measure. Bermuda National Gallery is grateful for the temporary loan from The Green Family, whose contemporary art collection is on view at The Hamilton Princess Hotel.
