Serving Bermuda

The Royal Bermuda Regiment serves the nation by being available in times of crisis and natural disaster. Guided by the Defence Board, we support the Government of Bermuda through assistance to civil ministries, the civil power, and Bermudian society. We send volunteers to assist international communities, with a recent deployment being sent to Cayman, Turks, Caicos, and Grenada for disaster relief.

 

Since 1965, Warwick Camp has been the Royal Bermuda Regiments headquarters. We fall under the remit of His Excellency the Governor who serves as Commander in Chief. We have always stood to protect the people, property, and interests of Bermuda.

 

Rich in history and tradition, the Royal Bermuda Regiment is a military unit that seeks to serve Bermuda and its residents. Soldiers are held to high standards and values include selfless commitment, courage, discipline, integrity, loyalty, and respect.

What are the main roles of the Royal Bermuda Regiment?

We provide the people of Bermuda with Disaster Relief & Humanitarian Aid, Internal Security & Civil Support, Maritime Security (RBR Coast Guard), & Ceremonial Duties.

Is enlistment in the RBR voluntary or compulsory?

Enlistment is 100% voluntary. Bermuda abolished military conscription in 2018, transitioning the Regiment into an all-volunteer force.

What are the eligibility requirements to join?

To enlist as a recruit, applicants must meet the following criteria: Must be between the age of 18 to 52 years old. Must be either Bermudian, spouse of a Bermudian, PRC holder, or Commonwealth citizen residing in Bermuda with a valid work permit (and employer support letter). Also be physically fit and medically clear & have a clean criminal record

What is the service commitment?

Begins with an intensive 2-week Foundational Training Camp at Warwick Camp. but you must also complete 40 evening/weekend drills per year plus a mandatory 15-day annual training camp.

How long do you have to commit?

Minimum initial commitment of 3 years and 2 months.

Do you receive compensation?

Soldiers are paid for all drills, camps, and emergency deployments, and receive medical coverage during duty periods.
