Formally known as Her Majesty’s Prison Service, The Department of Corrections is headquartered in Hamilton and is part of Ministry of National Security.

The Department of Correction administers the sentences imposed by the courts and works with inmates towards rehabilitation, helping them become responsible citizens and lead a normal life in society upon release. The main functions of the Department of Corrections fall into two categories, Custody and Treatment and Rehabilitation. Custody includes inmate reception, release, security, court escort security and daily operations. With the help of social workers, case managers and psychologists, Treatment and Rehabilitation manages behavioral and recreational programmes for the inmates depending on their mindset and skills to promote positive change.
