Description

Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, located in Southampton, is one of the recognizable tourist attractions in Bermuda, offering an unrivaled view and more.

Constructed in the year 1846, it’s a tapered cylindrical tower with a balcony and lantern. Its height is 117 feet and the focal length is 354 feet. The beam of light runs 362 feet above sea level and is visible to planes flying 10,000 feet.

Originally, the light was produced by a concentrated burner of four circular wicks. The light is now supplied by a 1000 watt electric bulb and makes a complete rotation once every 50 seconds.
