Description

One of the closest things Bermuda has to a prehistoric forest, Paget Marsh Nature Reserve feels completely different from the beaches and coastline people usually associate with the island. This quiet wetland protects one of Bermuda's last remaining peat marshes, with an elevated boardwalk leading visitors through ancient cedar, palmetto, mangrove, and marsh habitats. It is peaceful, shaded, and especially atmospheric after rain, giving you a rare look at what parts of Bermuda may have looked like before major development.

Local Insight:

Paget Marsh is not a long walk, but that is part of its charm. It is the kind of place you stop into when you want a quiet reset in the middle of the island. After visiting the boardwalk, head into Hamilton for lunch, shopping, or coffee, or continue toward the Botanical Gardens for a fuller nature-and-history afternoon. You can also pair it with nearby Elbow Beach if you want to balance the marsh experience with the south shore.
