Alexandra Battery, Saint George, | Directions
Description

Located in the Eastern End of the island, less than a mile away from St. Catherine's Fort aswell as Gates Fort, is Alexandra Fort with a small beach, known for its beautiful sea glass. It was built in the 1860's and was manned as a gun battery in World Ward I and II.

Nine guns known as the Rifles Muzzle Loaders, were mounted at the Alexandra Battery. One is still present at the fort on site at the Southern End of the battery. A unique feature of these guns was the use of metal flash plates (Gibraltar Shields) around the cannons to protect the gunners from incoming fire.
